Handheld ultrasound scanners have become the new revolutionary technology that has taking the headlines by the storm. A lot of news headlines have come up regarding these baby machines in the newspapers around the world. These handheld scanners are becoming increasingly popular because of they are highly portable and they transmit sonogram images to a mobile or a tablet through a Wi-Fi connection. It is due to this reason the medical practitioners could now scan the people who live in remote areas, without any extra expenditure on moving the bulky machines.
The New York Times recently covered a story where the people of remote communities in Africa were diagnosed using handheld ultrasound scanner and a smart phone. They stressed on the fact that basic medical facilities like the X-ray machines were available at hours distance for these people. Whereas, the CT scans and MRIs were available in the capital only. The same case applies to all such communities in Africa and other parts of the world like Asia, Latin America, etc. The portable and handheld ultrasound scanners are a boon for these people. It is especially beneficial for the people of such countries, where the basic diagnosis facilities are absent.
Even the Economic Times published a few months back citing the advantages of these low-cost ultrasound scanners. They also mentioned the sharpness and details in the sonograms produced by these scanners were as good as or may be even better than the traditional ultrasound devices. They also mentioned how a person can use it in daily life. There have been many such news regarding these babies in the market. All these news were focused on the advantages and applications of these devices. The best part about these devices is that they are useful for doctors as well as patients.
Thanks for all the nice comments yesterday. There’s just something about yesterday’s image from Caesar’s that I don’t like and haven’t been able to put my finger on it. A big thanks to Rick for his constructive feedback which has given me some great insight. I think I will process a couple more of my photos from the area and see how they turn out.
For today, we head back out to the Valley of Fire just outside Las Vegas, Nevada. This is an interesting little slot canyon that I found on the White Domes hiking trail. The whole trail is a mere 1.5 miles long and this section of narrows isn’t more than 300 feet long, but I still found it interesting. Because of the high, narrow walls of slot canyons like this, I find that it’s best to photograph them closer to midday rather than in the morning or late afternoon. It was about 11am when I started on this hike and the temperature had reached 104º so I was pretty glad that the hike was short. I hope you enjoy this one!
Jett and Jagger Eaton have been skateboarding for about 4 years. They started out with a mini-ramp in their back yard and we’re hooked! After seeing the enthusiasm resonate within them, their father Geoff built them a skatepark within his existing business, Desert Devils Gymnastics. It quickly gained popularity among parents and developed into Kids
That Rip Skateboard School: a year-round training facility for kids to learn how to skateboard. Last year, Jett and Jagger were the first kids (possibly in the world) to enter into a year-round traditional schooling and skateboard training curriculum. This year, 12 kids are enrolled with Jett and Jagger in the full-time academics and skateboard training class. Jett (11) and Jagger (9) are pushing the limits of skateboarding everyday. Progression seems to be innate in them, and their personal training facility allows them to do so – safely.
With four back to back international stops, there’s not much downtime for X Games competitors this summer. Just having gotten back from Barcelona, Spain, Jagger Eaton has already landed in Munich, Germany, and preparing for the Big Air Skateboard Competition Saturday morning. Jagger brought along 4 completes as the Big Air ramp is sitting in the middle of the lake with no nets! Should be fun contest to watch! Catch it LIVE on ESPN and ESPN3.
When you are from Arizona, there is nothing better than escaping the summer heat to cool waters. Usually, Jett and Jagger can be found skimming the waters of Lake Powell on their wakeboards, but this summer, they traded in the ski-rope for a surfboard and wetsuit. They had a blast, and found the glassy waves a nice break from the concrete.
Woodward surf camp runs in Ventura, CA, headed up Evan Caples, also father of Curren Caples. Right before surf camp, Jett and Jagger went to X Games 16 to cheer Curren on in the Park course.
If you haven’t heard, X Games has gone Global!
